Investing in our communities

Commuity Trust Logo

The Humansdorp Co-op founded The Co-op Community Trust as a vehicle for its Corporate Social Investment strategy.  A sustainable system – the ABCD approach – is used to grow communities in four major areas.  The Co-op is passionate about making a sustainable difference and companies, projects and businesses too can be part of this journey by investing in our determination to enable empowered and prosperous communities in Africa.

Vision

To enable empowered and prosperous communities in Africa.

Mission

To facilitate sustainable development of our communities, applying an asset based approach focussing on socio-economic growth, training and education, health promotion and the elderly, in partnerships with employees, communities and stakeholders within our areas of operation.

Key Focus Areas

We bring positive change to local communities by focusing on four key development areas:  Socio-Economic Growth, Training and Education, Care of the Elderly and Health Promotion
African Queens
The African Queens is a social enterprise that was created by a group of women based in the Kouga area. They make and sell traditional beaded products and food items.
Trekkerkursus
One of the many skills and training courses include the operation of a tractor. Once completed, each participant receive a certificate outlining the skills taught.

Socio-Economic Growth

By focusing on investments into our local assets, we create jobs which put buying power into a community’s hands. And when communities have buying power, businesses grow. It’s a beautiful synergy that brings prosperity to all.

Training and Education

Education is one of the pillars of a successful society. Hand-in-hand with education goes training, which is education put into practice. Local communities enjoy dramatic improvement with proper training and education.

Care of the Elderly

The elderly possess a wealth of knowledge and wisdom accumulated through decades of experience. If we look after them, they’ll share it with those who come after. This gives the elderly an opportunity to feel useful at a time in life when they’re frail and need encouragement.

Health Promotion

When a community is overrun by ailments and infirmities, it’s impossible for that community to prosper. The more healthy the members of a community, the better for all. That’s why we make it priority to promote healthy living and offer access to medical facilities. Healthy people are productive people!
